Well, yeah. I became a Doctor Who fan the year they stopped making the show. It was a long wait before the series came back, but that period was not without its comforts!

And during those years I learned that the BBC had scrapped some of the First and Second Doctors’ episodes, and even a few Third Doctor episodes. We may never, ever see the Second Doctor’s first story, for example. But at least we get the occasional find, like those episodes from Galaxy 4 and The Underwater Menace.

Compared to the 1989-1996 and 1996-2005 Great Drought and the 1970s Great Destruction, anything a Doctor Who fan can suffer now is mere drama. A ten month wait? Pfft! Watch DVDs in the meantime! A change of actors? That’s how the show works! Would you honestly give up the Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond and Rory ever existing to keep the Tenth Doctor and Donna, or the Ninth Doctor and Rose, or even have the show end in 1966 with William Hartnell? Steven Moffat? He’s merely driving you mildly crazy with timey-wimey plots and pleasant anticisayitpation. So be content, Whovians. We are living in a Golden Age!
